First Orthodontist Visit

First Orthodontist Visit

What will happen at my first appointment?

At your first visit you should expect to have your details and medical history checked. Dr Alcock will then examine your mouth and teeth using a small mouth mirror and ruler. X-rays, photographs and moulds (impressions) may also be taken. All of these measurements and records will help Dr Alcock decide which is the best treatment for you.

A consultation appointment costs €80 for adults or €60 for school children (under 18).

What will happen next?

There are four possible outcomes, each of which will be explained to you in plain and simple language by Dr Alcock. These include:

  1. You are not ready for treatment, in which case you may need to see Dr Alcock again when you are older.
  2. Your dental health is not good enough. This may be due to poor tooth brushing or decayed teeth. You will need to see your dentist before orthodontic treatment can start.
  3. You do not need treatment because the position of your teeth is perfectly acceptable, or is as expected to be.
  4. You are ready for treatment and need to decide whether to go ahead.

What happens if I am ready to start treatment?

Dr Alcock will explain:

  1. The options of treatment and which is the best for you.
  2. The pros and cons of treatment.
  3. The length of time treatment will take.
  4. The commitment needed on your part if treatment is to be successful.
  5. The cost of your treatment along with a payment plan.

At this point you will be given the chance to ask questions. If you are keen to proceed with treatment you can book a follow up appointment. Following your consultation, Park Orthodontics will email Dr Alcock’s detailed report along with a copy of your records (photographs and X-rays) and treatment cost to you.
